Most
environmental dredges are auger dredges and copies of a 30-year-old-design. The dredges
built by Dredging Specialists are swing dredges and use an exclusive four cable
positioning and travel system. The advantages of this system include:
The single cable of an auger dredge permits the wind and the
reaction of the material to push the dredge out of the cut. The four cables used by
Dredging Specialists hold the dredge rigidly in the desired position as the dredge swings.
This assures that the pump suction is in the material and not water.
The single cable of an auger dredge limits travel to fore and aft in an approximate
straight line. The four cable system used by Dredging Specialists provides 360º
positioning from the dredge. Using the swing cables, the dredge can be moved to the shore
for ease of fueling, service and repair. In addition, the dredge can be moved aft for
clean-up sweeps.
A swing arc of up to 500 ft. can be provided. This is over four times the swing arc
of comparably sized dredges. Longer swing arcs mean higher production.
Additional Features include:
Vertical shaft
underwater centrifugal pump and head assembly
